** Art Deco pubs are a particular category of Australian hospitality real estate: the period bones are exceptional, the floor plans tend to need work, and the trading expectations of a modern pub are very different to when these buildings were originally built. The brief was to land all three considerations in one renovation. **

** Period detail (cornices, ceiling work, joinery profiles and the original Art Deco bar architecture) was identified, documented and retained or restored. Where new work was needed (a contemporary kitchen, the modern bar service spine, accessible amenities, compliance items), it was detailed to read as clearly new but quietly · no pastiche, no period imitation. **
