Icono was founded in 2003 by Rod McMullen, a building designer who'd grown up on documentation in larger firms and wanted to do the work properly, at a scale he could stand behind personally.
Twenty-plus years later, the practice has stayed deliberately small. Rod still leads every project. Jared joined as Architectural Graduate after his Bachelor of Architecture (Hons), and is now Rod's right hand on documentation, council submissions and the day-to-day. There's no junior layer between you and the senior designer · you talk to the people who draw your house.
The work has run the full gamut. New family residences. Sympathetic alterations and additions on Federation and post-war stock. Dual-occupancy and unit developments for investor clients. A staged refurbishment of a Catholic primary school. Commercial fitouts for professional practices and retail tenancies. Several long, low rural homes in the Wagga hinterland.
Project reach has grown well past Wagga. Clients in Canberra, Sydney, Perth, Adelaide, Darwin and the NSW South Coast have brought us in for residential work; commercial briefs have taken the practice as far north as Yeppoon. The plans get sent. The builds get delivered. The studio stays right here, in Kooringal Mall.
