About the project

A long, low family home that turns its back on the heat and its face to the view.

** A new residence on a lakeside block in Lake Albert · oriented to capture the long view across the water and to manage the western afternoon sun that comes with it. **

** The site is generous but exposed. East to the lake, west to the road and the worst of the summer heat. The brief was a single-storey family home that would feel calm in summer, warm in winter, and connect cleanly to outdoor living. **

** The plan is a long, low form drawn along the contour. Living, kitchen and dining open east to the lake through generous covered terraces. Bedrooms are pulled to the cooler southern edge. The western elevation is detailed as a working facade · deep eaves, careful glazing, and a service spine that buffers the living rooms from the afternoon sun. **

** Materially, the house is restrained. A warm-grey masonry base, a long-form roof in dark Colorbond, and timber-lined ceilings that carry through to the terrace soffit. From the lake side, the house reads as a single, settled line in the landscape. **

** The completed residence has been in use since 2024. **
