About the project

Second store in a national rollout.

A 76-square-metre music-retail tenancy at Stockland Shopping Mall, Batemans Bay · the second site in the rollout of the new RockFactory store identity Icono had first developed at Sturt Mall in Wagga Wagga.

RockFactory was a growing national music retailer in the early 2000s. After the new store concept landed at Sturt Mall, Batemans Bay was the second site to take the updated identity. The challenge with a rollout's second store isn't designing the brand. It's documenting it so the next ten tenancies can be built faster, more consistently, and to landlord standards across different shopping-centre operators.

The plan packs an office with a computer desk, storage and kitchenette, a service counter, and an open retail floor into the 76m² tenancy. Internally the scheme leans on bulkheads, wall projections and contrasting colour against a white background that lets the merchandise carry the visual weight.

From the mall edge, an orange 2-pac portal frames the entrance with illuminated signage above. Inside, a wall-mounted plasma screen runs DVD marketing reels above the chart-racking · part display, part attractor, part working tool for staff to switch product focus through the day.

Delivered in 2004 as part of the chain's national expansion.
